8.1 Main Body – and one too many Mojitos in My Body
A few preliminary questions:
As characteristically for such gatherings, the moving hourglass lead the conversations to become…more animated – and I wouldn’t completely deny the apparent lack of victuals which I erroneously thought had passed my tummy that day to figure among the various causes of the ever-increasing merriment, for - right after the first half of the first glass - the sugary concoction declared as Mojito denied the full-size banana grin to leave my face for good (or to lower the volume of my vocal cords) ….seems like I’m not that much of a drunkard after all if half a Mojito turns me into Eleri’s favorite Happy-Face and three of that sort make my world spin (no reference to the former blog entry though ;p). Guess I should stick to my usual diet and continue gulping down “high-spirited” fruit juice or lemon tea when going out ;p
Now of course the Manson is not the only “inn” the neighborhood..there is Le B, too – an Asian inspired Lounge Restaurant in about 30 seconds walking distance (we actually share the same street entrance) which features an excellent cuisine and friendly service (ok, the personnel is rather flirty but hence also very attentive to your every wish :D ).
If you want to shake it we talk however “Mojo” (do I here Beba calling? ;p – sorry for the many who won’t understand that inside joke) – another hot spot within the next 500m which is sharing its musical taste with us..less restaurant style, more bar and not very creative on its playlist – but eventually I would always end up on the dance floor!
THE place to be though is certainly the Buddha Club and Restaurant – ostentatiously decorated on two levels underground the Asian monk is quite impressive. Being not that much of an It-Girl or counting among the city’s party elite, I have however not passed the threshold of young-Tana’s sactuary more than once or twice…
But let’s proceed and complete the list: Amongst the various locations known to me (and be it by name only) we shall not omit the Six, the Glacier, the Pandora or the Bus (a nice after-clubbing chill-out-place) – oh, and since a bit over a month the Pharaon SUPER CLUB (very important that last bit of information! – a shame though that the degree of “superness” is sooooo high, it’s really already dreadfully bad!).
Now you might – after all that lengthy talk (I’m still hoping that those of you beloved readers who do actually follow me up to this point do appreciate the latter – otherwise I’d be very sorry…say, if someone MADE you read it because you’ve been naughty :p ) – have noticed that I haven’t even come to the point that justified the second half of the original title, i.e. how to wrench your ankle in the first place. Well, I’ll make that a ridiculously short one – the most recommendable ingredient, amazingly sure to deliver success, is to dance on high heels (you’re not used to dance on) on a very uneven terrain – preferably by night so you wouldn’t see where you are dancing to. Make that a private evening at a friend’s house and you can’t even sew a big club owner for it (sorry, that was a bit of the “American spirit” ;p
Soooooooooooo, now that you know about everything there is to know about Tana’s night lift (kidding of course, I haven’t told you anything about restaurants, pool and KARAOKEEEEEE), I’d say good night and sweet dreams….

Waking up to a new life – the first day in ‘Tana
Good morning middle-eastsiders…Tana Girl here, your one and only source into the adventurous lifes of Malagasy’n expats. And what a nice morning it was – bright and shiny with this wonderfully blue colored sky and a grinning sun :D Way to start a new life, I though, took a shower, bounced down the stairs and magically metamorphosed into a lemur! Ok, probably it wasn’t quite like that..it was a wonderful morning though, only that I turned around in bed again after a quick telephonic exchange with by boss – “yes, I had a good flight, the hotel is great…and the bed in my room unmatched in perfection…whether I could enjoy it some more” – to fall asleep again for another 2-3 hours.
Ok, after the second, and eventually successful try to get up I proceeded as told – no lemurs though – and met with Elza, one of the 2 (now 3) Germans in AccesBanque MG to get a tour of local headquarter. Any comments? NICE! Seriously! It’s a wonderful building with 3 stories and a maze-like interior structure, very need – and stuffed with amazingly nice co-workers whose names I still have a hard time remembering. “Why” you might ask yourself..well, they are truly beautiful (the names – remarks about the local phenotype might follow in a bit), but sooooooo long and yet somewhat unfamiliar. But I’m getting there. People who know me certainly remember my passion for languages J Certainly those of you who do will find it no big surprise that in that sense I’m having a blast.

Second entry – another week later.
After the preliminary comments on “how to travel” I shall now proceed to a more detailed description of the “how to be upon arrival”. First of all, you are supposed to be sleepy – check, august 2, 11:45pm, ‘Tana airport: after a total traveling time of over 18 hours little Leo was more than ready to change into a horizontal position and welcome Morpheus’s lasting embrace for the next couple of hours minimum. Then again, what would the world be without airport security? – exactly, such a dull place..that’s why we – and with “we” I mean the absolutely amazing number of fellow passengers (who would have guessed a flight to Mada could get so crowded?) – spent another good hour swinging back and forth between the immigration office and the baggage claim.
What a surprise to find the number of travelers easily exceeded by the masses of people waiting outside the airport to “embosom” their loved ones. At 1am in the morning the size of the welcome committee left me kind a speechless – aaaand…a tiny bit worried I wouldn’t find whoever was waiting for me. Eventually, I spotted a sign with my name on and now that all major uncertainties were covered, I felt a wave of fatigue wash through me almost instantaneously.
The ride from the airport to the hotel took probably another half an hour…quite mostly as the lack of significant street lighting prevented much of the potential comments that could be made during daylight.

first impressions
Though there are a million little things that are worth a detailed description - mostly including adjectives like fascinating, impressive and mindboggling - i will only give a very introductory report from my first two weeks on the island.
First, whoever wants to travel to Madagascar better brings a good cushion..you know, one of those you can buy in every airport terminal but you'd usually refrain from since it makes you look like a dog or cat after surgery. The thing is that despite all the potential beauty-related hesitation you might experience pre-buying this useful addition to your travel equipment, that's the way to survive the 9 to 11 hour plane ride.
Secondly?
Secondly comes another time when there's more time to write.
